YVES MONTAND - LIVE IN PARIS

Once a protégé of Edith Piaf, Yves Montand became an icon in films and an international star, one of the best artists that France produced in the 20th century. The booklet for this set was written by Martin Pénet, a great music specialist and historian of France’s Chanson genre. Yves Montand was a wonderful performer of French songs and many of those titles became immense, timeless standards thanks to his talent. Between 1958 and 1962, he was at his peak as a singer and performer, and he was accompanied onstage by some of the greatest jazz and musette musicians in France among them Freddy Balta, Didi Duprat or Hubert Rostaing. The Live in Paris collection by Michel Brillié allows listeners to hear previously-unreleased recordings (made at concerts and private- or radio-sessions) by the great 20th stars in jazz, rock & roll and song. These “live” takes, and the artists’ rapport with their audiences, gives these performances an additional soul and sensibility in counterpoint to the rigorous demands of studio recordings. Particular care was taken when restoring the sound of these tapes in order to meet CD standards while preserving the original colours of the period.
